minilink.org

What is it?

Minilink is a service that changes long URLs into short ones. This is useful for sending links via email, instant messaging, posting web boards, or even saying over the phone. Links created through minilink.org do not expire and can be created for any purpose.

Example

Original link:

What makes minilink.org different?

There are already many services that create shorter links. Of the URL shortening services that I have tried, they all suffer from the same usability problem: They do not reveal any information about the nature of the final destination site. With a link such as http://lnk.nu/n0tre4l, there is no indication about which site the redirection will go to, or what type of page it is (HTML, image, movie, etc).

Minilink solves this problem by including the original domain name (1) and file extension (2) in the shorter URL.

(1)(2)

The requirement to include the original domain name and extension also makes minilink URLs much harder to guess.
